How Insulation & Ventilation Work Together
Why should both insulation and ventilation be priorities for your home?
Unfortunately, even the highest-quality insulation can wear and tear over time and need replacing. There are several reasons why this might occur depending on which type of insulation you have. Some of the most common reasons include water damage, mould, improper installation, or if the insulation has been punctured by a storm or an animal. Regardless of the cause, here are some of the major signs that your insulation may need replacing.
Is your house too hot one minute and then too cold the next? If this is the case, you should check your insulation. High-quality insulation prevents heat fluctuation. If your home’s temperature changes often, this could mean that your insulation has gaps which hinders its cold-blocking and heat-trapping effects.
If you feel a draught even when all of your doors and windows are closed, this can be a sign of deteriorated insulation. If insulation is high-quality and installed properly, it should block out any unwanted draughts from outside and keep the warm air in.
Leaks and condensation are signs of an unhealthy home. If you are experiencing these problems, it is a good idea to check your insulation. Alternatively, it might be time to add more insulation if you don’t already have all of your bases covered. For example, if you only have underfloor insulation, you should also look into installing wall insulation to prevent further moisture damage and protect your home.
Pests and rodents can thrive in certain types of insulation. Insulation is warm and out of the way which can make it a breeding ground for pests. However, certain types of insulation can repel pests and if your insulation was properly installed, there should be no space to burrow into. A pest infestation could be a sign that your insulation has experienced some wear and tear and created holes. Both the Polyester and Glasswool insulation products we use at Bay Energy are vermin-resistant.
If you are experiencing any of these issues, it might be a good idea to check your insulation. If your home is older, or has suffered from water damage or mould, there is a high probability that your insulation has deteriorated. Get in touch with us today for your free home assessment.
